Could a concept like degrowth unfold in reality? Also there is “geothermal energy”, and its “potential may be enormous”. 🤷 For a good long while I was a proponent of nuclear energy, and therefore ever so slightly optimistic to learn it is somewhat being reconsidered (e.g. in Belgium and the US). “So long overdue, but still”, I thought, but as I learned later, nuclear cannot save us either.
Maybe the ineluctable bleak and devastating decades of death and despair ahead won't preclude any and all afterwards entirely. After all, Africa, whence we came, has resources (let's mindfully ignore the word's nasty connotation of exploitation). Perhaps after everything we know is lost and gone, the meek shall inherit the earth indeed (Matthew 5:5), humanely rebuilding something humane from the ashes, remembering the coral and the emperor penguin, and all that used to be, really, maybe.
Yes maybe too cheesy a picture, but those emperor penguins are peskily photogenic by default, and I can't be bothered right now to find a less imperially vibrant photo. Fact quite like it.
Also, somehow only today (being September 27th 2023), I came across Jem Bendell's freely available book entitled “Breaking Together - a freedom-loving response to collapse”. Possibly soothing reading? Can't wait to sober up and see.
Meantime.. Since elsewhere on this here site I have begun compiling endless lists of bad news, it seems only fair to start tallying good news, too. Of course there is an abundance of bad news, and not all that much good news. What's worse, the list of bad news just fits the bill of a thousand cuts, and any good news will be this one-thing-or-other that just so happens to not make things worse. The odds of a truly.. 🤔 Hmh.
Barring the arrival of aliens in good spirits, or dipshit Trump's magical sharpie fixing the anomalies out of thin air, we can only call upon our god from the machine.
So, meantime let's just get listing.
